Yes, I know!
I was a bit slow getting around to reading these, but on the upside, I got to read them one after another - without having to wait for the next book in the series.
If you haven't yet picked up The Hunger Games, please make a point of checking them out. Set in a bleak future world, in a nation called Panem. Cities are actually specified "districts", without names, only numbers, and each has a designated trade or function to support society.
Katniss Everdeen is born into District 12, one of the poorest of the districts, where each day is the same and for most of the inhabitants a struggle to survive. Katniss and her friend Peeta sneak into the woods surrounding District 12 to hunt for extra food to barter and so help their families stay alive.
Each year, as punishment for an attempted rebellion, the Capital of Panem takes as a tribute one boy and one girl from each district to take part in the Hunger Games. A nationally televised event where the winner is the last person left alive...
To save her younger sister Katniss volunteers for the games, and so begins the first book in this excellent series.
To follow her story of friendship and survival in a world where everything is a game... you also need to read the next two books in the series.
