Neverwhere is about an average, if somewhat timid, Londoner, Richard Mayhew. Living his life casually, without much thought or effort, and bullied by his fiancee Jessica, Richard's life is turned upside down over night when he finally makes a stand and saves the life of an unusual young woman named Door.
Unwittingly dragged into a world he never knew existed, Richard has to deal with mad assasins, talking rats, terrifying beasts and things out of nightmare to help Door stay alive and discover who murdered her family.
Neverwhere is a tale quite unlike any other. Set deep in the bowels of an underground world full of oddly disturbing (but still) strangely likeable characters. If you have never read a Gaiman novel or comic, Neverwhere is as great place to start.
